Is Your Hartford Business Insurance Protecting You?
Many business owners would not dream of going without the monetary protection offered by insurance. You may have Hartford business insurance, but do you have the right type and right amount of coverage? Before you say “yes,” consider the following scenario of a Connecticut liability case based on a simple fall.
In February of 2008, the MetroWest Daily News reported the verdict, six years in the making, of a liability case involving the Super Eight Motel and a veterinarian visiting from Kentucky. In March of 2002, Michael Bowman claimed he slipped on an icy patch, causing him to break his ankle in three places.
Both the motel owner and general manager were accused of being liable for the incident. Why? According to Bowman’s attorney, not only was the area poorly lit, but the two men had known about the danger for four years and yet made no attempt to correct the issue. After listening to arguments from both sides, the jury sided with Bowman on January 18, 2008 and awarded him $1.8 million.
Connecticut is known for its freezing winters. Could your business be in danger of a similar event occurring? Besides taking steps to prevent icy falls, such as spreading rock salt on the exterior walkways, you should also obtain the protection of a Hartford business insurance policy.
